Spider-man 3 Review (360/PS3/PC)

Spiderman 3 is based on the recent Motion Picture featuring Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst and Topher Grace who all lend their voices to the game. The story of the game follows close to the movie and contains other plots and directions that lead to old Spidey foes and sub-missions.

At first glance, the game looks stunning. Spidey is modeled to perfection and looks very detailed, building and surrounding are done relatively well as the actual skyline and streets of New York have been recreated.

The most fun part is the free-roaming ability as you can swing, run or jump your way through the Manhattan skyline or streets using different web shots and ‘Air tricks’ as leap across the city.

The map is extremely big as it covers the whole island and as for missions, they are are presented through markers in the city. There are ussually 3 missions available at a time leading into different story arcs, and you as the player chooses which path to follow first. Sub-missions are created as random (but creative) crimes are generated in the city as you swing but, such as a runaway stolen car causing havoc that you’d have to stop.

New elements such as an active spider sense is available as time seems to slow down and criminals glow red and can be seen through walls, floors ect. Interesting as it adds new depth to the game.

The gameplay is very smooth and fluid, though the combat seems a bit of a ‘button basher’ and even with continually unlockable combos, is a bit repititive. Though fights in the game are very different as you fight a host of varied characters such as Venom, The New Goblin and the ol’ fav Rhino plus many more.

Even though Spiderman 3 is a brand new next gen gaming adventure, I think fans you have experienced the official Spiderman games know what to expect, a good ol’ bash em up with swinging and vividly coloured characters and locations, with the exceptions of bigger, better and new elements added. All together ‘Spiderman 3′ is a sweet and fun ride though it lacks SLIGHTLY in the odd parts, but I guess games such as ‘Spiderman 3′ aren’t meant to be ‘gaming revolutions’, but are meant to be good weekends of fun.
