Sega has announced that there will be a new sonic game for 2010, codenaming it Project Needlemouse. According to Sega, they intend to return the series to the original 2D side scrolling style that made sonic what it was today and branded the company with the lightning fast blue mascot.

The game will have the same fast paced action and adventurous style as the first three 2D Sonics but with a lot more flair and beautiful HD graphics. With so many 2D scrolling HD titles being made for next gen, Project Needlemouse should definitely be a hit.

Sega’s associate brand manager says that they have listened to their gamers and have realized that by returning the series to the original old school style, it should receive more popularity and praise.
