Friday Feature- The Do’s and Don’ts of Eating Whilst Gaming.

For the gamers that tend to spend a good few hours in front of their TV, the feeling of hunger is bound to kick in at some point. There are those who will merely pause a game to eat something, but then there are those who just can’t get enough or those who can’t risk leaving their online multiplayer game. Your choice of food whilst gaming then becomes a very important decision as a wrong choice could have some serious repercussions on your console.

In order to please your stomach and keep your console clean, here are our Do’s and Don’ts of Eating whilst gaming.

Don't believe everything you see. Consoles and food dont mix that well.

The DO’s

1. Try and find a snack which you will be able to consume without any direct contact between your finger and the snack. This includes items such as chocolate bars which allow you to fully enjoy the chocolate without it touching those sweet soft gaming fingers of yours.

2. Experience has taught us that simple dishes which require a fork only make for a good gaming meal. We highly recommend a simple pasta dish such as ‘beef ravioli’. The reason for this is that its the type of dish that you take a forkful of without having to use much brain power. The fork will also ensure your peripherals remain spotless. That way you’re clean and you won’t lose game focus either.

3. Items that do not leave any oily stains on your hands and items that you’ll have to have direct contact with for a short period of time are also a must. ‘Biltong sticks’ seem to possess both of these qualities. Ensure that the stick is fairly thin and not too long, and things will go according to plan. Simply pick it up, put it in our mouth and chew away while you enjoy your game.

If the wrong choice of food does this to a dress, imagine what it can do to your beautiful console.

The DON’Ts

1. The golden rule to oil free gaming is: Do not come into direct contact with a chip of any sort! Each time you dip your hand in and out of that bag, you hurt your controller more and more. Yes, chips are great but your console always comes first. Chips will only be accepted if you can find someone to feed them to you.

2. Now you might be thinking that all dishes are okay to eat as long as they only require a fork. Sadly this is not true. Dishes that contain saucy ingredients are a big ‘no, no’. Sauce and chips are therefore a dangerous combination, which leaves room for sauce to go flying onto the TV, remote, console or hands.

3. For the smokers out there, a ‘ciggie’ could be considered a meal replacement from time to time. Sure you can wipe the ash off if it falls and you don’t mind a smokey remote, but what about the effects it has on your gaming vision. Trying to shoot an online opponent with your cigarette in hand becomes a daunting task and chances are you’ll be shot down before the smoke clears.

No! Cookies are also a don't. No matter how much you love them.

We hope this will make you think twice next time you have controller in-hand, and you feel that rumble in your tummy. Have a great weekend!
