Kayne & Lynch 2: Dog Days Hands-on Preview

Kayne & Lynch hit our consoles and PC’s in late 2007 and became one of gaming’s most notorious duos, due to the game’s over-the-top approach and violent antics. As unlikable as the two middle-aged psychopaths can be, they’re back for a second outing, and we got our hands on Kayne & Lynch 2 for a little controversial action.

Off the bat, the game’s CCTV-like camera technique isn’t just specific to the trailers, but the entire game. The visual style is gritty and filtered, as if Michael Mann was documenting Kayne and Lynch’s Shanghai killing spree. The camera is shaky, switches focus and even blurs out executed enemies faces. It’s an incredibly unique and interesting idea, and it definitely adds a realistic and intense feel to the game.

The game runs extremely smoothly, as there is an effective cover system which allows you to move from cover to cover with ease. The shooting also feels more solid than before, as a few bullets will easily put your enemies to rest, as well as you.

The multiplayer component continues the innovative modes from the original, but mixes it up a little. Fragile Alliance pits a squad of bank robbers or thieves against an AI police force. You got to grab the loot and get out within four minutes, but there’s a catch. Any one of your partners can turn on you at any time, and take your share of the cash. If you are killed, you spawn as a cop, allowing you to take revenge on your treacherous former partners. It’s will be really unique and interesting to see how the community turns out for Dog Days after all its visual and technical upgrades.

After a disappointing debut, Kayne & Lynch 2: Dog Days are looking to improve on what the first title fell short. It’s got a lot of potential and we’re excited to get our hands on some more of these partners in crime very soon.
