The UEFA Champions League is the most prestigious competition of Europe. It envelopes all the best teams from all the different leagues of Europe. As a result, the standard of the tournament is high and competitive. While there are many teams who might challenge the title, a few stand out from the rest. Here are the three best teams who can win the UEFA Champions trophy this season:
#1 Manchester City
Manchester City has smartly exploited their EPL fixtures this season and to position themselves at the top rungs of EPL. However, what the 2018-19 league winners lack is a Champions League trophy in their collection. City has a great squad and enough depth to challenge for league title and UCL. With the league title in hand last season their main priority will be to get through and claim the European Champions title.
The group stage possesses very little challenge to City, and it’s expected that they will go through. The real challenge the team faces is the quarter-finals. Going by previous records, City often lose their way in the main matches. However, if City players stay injury free, it is highly likely that they may go against odds and win the UCL.
Liverpool has shown repeatedly that they are kings of Champions League. Whether it is the 2005 Champions League epic comeback or fighting against all odds and winning the 2018-19 trophy, Liverpool have shown that they are a different team when they compete for the European title.
The Reds have prioritized league title this season. However, one cannot write off Liverpool in the Champions League. They have the best in-form squad in the world. The attacking half comprises Mane, Firmino and Salah. The midfield is hardworking, and the defence is solid as a rock, with the addition of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Robertson as attacking full-backs. Looking at the UCL schedule if the team remains injury free, it may very well end up winning the UCL.
Liverpool has another great weapon, which is their own home stadium “Anfield”. On UCL nights, Anfield becomes a hostile place for away teams. Everyone fears playing in Anfield, which gives a huge advantage to Liverpool. Last season, how Barcelona bottled against Liverpool in the second leg. The Reds are strong at home.
#3 RB Leipzig
RB Leipzig is cruising through the Bundesliga, leading the league table. The German club has a great squad with talents like Timo Werner, Marcel Sabitzer, and Yussuf Poulsen. They have great unity and a strong bond amongst each other which reflects on the pitch.
RB Leipzig is aggressive and poses a great danger to enemy defence. The team has an easier group with Zenit, Lyon and Benfica; this gives them great potential to proceed to the knockout stages. Leipzig can be the dark horse of the tournament. If they win, they will surprise a few but it is possible with their current form and hunger to play good football.
